What is the difference between the organised Poppy Runs and My Poppy Run virtual challenge?
The Royal British Legion have Poppy Run events organised around the country. These will be 5km routes and take part on the 3 weekends around Remembrance. You can find out more about locations near you on the Royal British Legion website.
My Poppy Run is a virtual challenge where you choose your own distance and when you are going to run. You have the whole of October and November to complete your challenge so you can take on one long run or shorter runs over the 2 months.
Do I have to run?
You are welcome to walk, run, jog or bring your dog, it’s all about getting involved.
What do I do if there isn’t an organised Poppy Run close to me?
You can take on the My Poppy Run virtual challenge for free. You can choose the distance you want to run and you can even purchase a special Poppy Run finishers medal for £10 and add a t shirt (£5 adults and £3 children), when you sign up to make it really special.
Can I run more than 5km as part of one of the organised Poppy Runs?
The organised Poppy Runs are set at 5km on event day, but you can choose to take on the Poppy Run as part of a bigger running challenge with runs before and after event day. Simply edit the distance on your JustGiving page and log your runs after you’ve completed them to light up your achievement badges.
Can I take part as part of a team?
Absolutely! When you register for the event, you can choose to register as an individual or as a group. If you have friends that have already created a team, you’ll be able to join their team on registration. Running with friends is a great way to keep motivated.
How do I set up a JustGiving page?
When you register on the Royal British Legion website, you will be asked to create a JustGiving page and guided through the process. This happens automatically, so you don’t have to worry about creating one separately.
How do I set my distance?
You can set your target distance on your JustGiving page. Click on edit your page and you can add how far you are aiming to run. If you decide to increase your distance at a later stage, you can go back in and change it.
Is there a certain distance I have to run?
How far you run is completely up to you and you’ve got the whole of October and November to complete your challenge. Many runners aim for a 5 or 10k, or even a half or full marathon.
How long do I have to complete the My Poppy Run virtual challenge?
You can start running as soon as the event starts in October. All runners should have completed their challenge by the end of November.
How do I log my runs?
To log your runs, go to your JustGiving page and click on the log fitness button.
How do I create (or join) a team JustGiving page?
Once you have created your individual JustGiving page, you’re able to create a team
- Click on Edit my page
- Click on Teams
- Click on the Create or Join a team button
The JustGiving team page connects all of your team members’ individual pages to make one combined total. Once you’re there you can edit your page and add a cover photo, set a collective target and add your team story. To add someone to your team page, just click on the Members tab and decide if you’d like your team page to be open for anyone to join, or just by invitation only. Then you can invite new members and remove members.
Can I take part on my own?
Yes, many of our Poppy Runners take on the challenge as an individual, it’s a great way to meet new friends.
How do I share my progress?
Let your friends and family know how you are getting on by keeping them updated on social media. You can also add updates to your JustGiving page to let your donors know your progress.
When will I receive my t-shirt?
